These areas of our anatomy are frequent sites of injury, chronic pain and inflammation, both in yoga practice and in our daily lives.

Deane will discuss these questions:

  • What are the specific structural elements and tissues involved (bones, connective tissue, muscles, nerves)?
  • What are the yoga postures and the everyday activities that can challenge these areas and cause injuries and pain?
  • How can we best avoid them and manage them if they occur?

What is the anatomy of our core physical structures—our primary support system?

  • How can we create a more functional core support system in our bones and musculature both in yoga practice and daily life?
  • What are the core elements of our psyches (felt experience of self, habituated patterns, beliefs and perpetuated behaviors?
  • How can we train and nurture more balanced and mindful core supports of body and mind?

“The Neurological, Physiological and Behavioral Responses to Chronic Stress and Anxiety (a Deeper Examination)”

What is the “relaxation response” and the “stress response in our bodies and our minds?

Deane will discuss these questions:

  • How do chronic stress and anxiety impact our sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems, metabolism, organ functions and muscular patterns?
  • How can we use the “relaxation response” to counter chronic stress and anxiety and more mindfully regulate our physical, psychological and spiritual balance?
  • What are the most useful focuses of meditation to facilitate this self-regulation?
