Since Job's Body, Deane Juhan has continued to break new ground and to open up new arenas for manual therapists. He has also been at the forefront of legitimizing bodywork and movement reeducation to medical practitioners and scientists. Using lecture and hands-on applications, Deane will expand your awareness of connective tissue. Besides being the tough structural net that holds bodies together, research has revealed a great deal of new information about the properties of connective tissue as a: fluid crystal, spontaneous generator and semiconductor of electricity, sensitive antenna to energy, barrier to toxins and disease. You will learn practical information and applications for neurophysiological blocks, muscular inhibition, brain and spinal chord roles in movement impairment.

I first brought Deane to the Northwest in 1988 and 1989 for classes he taught on Orcas island. I was surprised at how many persons traveled from afar to be there with Deane. Job's Body had broken new ground in the world of bodywork... offering a much deeper understanding of what we were working with. Deane had gone out to the edge of anatomy and physiology and invited us all to journey there with him. Many courageous schools required his book as a primary textbook.

Since then Deane has continued to break new ground and to open up new possibilities for the manual therapies. He has also been at the forefront of legitimizing the bodywork modalities to medical practitioners and the hard sciences. I promise you that Deane will stretch your minds and will welcome the opportunity for you to do the same for him.

This is also a hands-on class, much of which is derived from Deane's many years as a Trager® Instructor. Those classes I took from him in the late 80's opened me up to the possibilities of going much further in bodywork than I had ever expected... eventually leading to graduate school. He continues to challenge all of us to learn much more, understand much more, and create much more than we ever thought possible. This class promises to be a worthy experience for all hands-on practitioners and a stretch for all modalities. Come and join us!

Deane's own words from "Bone, Breath and Gesture": "In bodywork what is being felt is of major importance. This does not oppose it to science, rather it puts bodywork in a position to add important dimensions of information to those of weight and measure... What are the sensory and emotional conditions surrounding the generation of a muscular distortion? And what are the sensory and emotional conditions necessary for its lasting release? These are the questions that can be of enormous significance to the individual suffering such distortions, regardless of whether or not these sensory and emotional conditions can be weighed or chemically analyzed. These are questions that I would have the study and practice address."

Instructor: Deane Juhan is a longtime practitioner of both Esalen Massage and the Trager Approach. He taught at the Esalen Institute in California for many years and continues to teach for Trager International. He lectures widely throughout the United States and Europe and is the author of Job's Body: A Handbook for Bodywork and Touched by the Goddess: The Physical, Psychological, and Spiritual Powers of Bodywork.

Jack Blackburn, LMP, Master's in Theological Studies, Certified Spiritual Director, Registered Counselor, specializes in body centered spiritual growth and healing. He has been a Trager® practitioner since 1986. He has been a Trager tutor since 1993, has taught Trager electives classes since 1996, and teaches a variety of classes to care giving professionals. He is a NCBTMB Approved instructor and AMTA National Presenter. He is now a Focusing Trainer and will start teaching Focusing classes for professionals in 2007. Jack is also a Reiki Master and teaches levels I II III and Advanced Reiki for Bodyworkers.
